Who We Are

The Italian Canadian HandiCAPABLE Association (ICHA), Windsor and District, is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of the physically and mentally disabled by providing recreational and social activities.

This organization was granted charitable non-profit status on July 22, 1987. The roots of the ICHA were established in 1977 when Peter Novelletto ran onto the soccer field to replace his injured brother. Unfortunately, Peter was escorted off the field because he was mentally disabled. Crushed by the tears of his son, Egidio Novelletto began a soccer program for the mentally disabled at Glengarda. Today, the ICHA is one of the largest organizations of its kind in Ontario, Canada.

Our programs are designed to help foster friendships, sportsmanship and opportunities for persons with disabilities in their community. Interested in becoming a member? Please click here. The ICHA has established a fund to provide bursaries for disabled students at the University of Windsor and St. Clair College. A bursary is also accessible to ICHA volunteers.
